The training of specialists in professional higher education institutions is aimed at the formation and development of educational qualifications that confirm a person’s ability to perform typical specialized tasks in a professional field.

The Law of Ukraine “On Professional Higher Education” (2019) opens up significant opportunities and prospects for the formation of a system of specific education in Ukraine as a separate link. For the first time in legislative practice, the concept of student-centered learning is defined as a modern conceptual approach to the organization of the educational process in pedagogical colleges.

For the quality training of future specialists, it is positive to create an educational environment focused on professionally oriented subjects, their integrative nature, and the combination of spiritual and intellectual components of the educational process [2, p. 20].

Ukrainian literature as an academic discipline occupies an important place in the system of teaching general education disciplines, as it not only enriches the future young specialist with knowledge of the history or theory of text creation, but also contributes to the personal formation of the student as a citizen, oriented to the highest national and universal ideals, who has an active life position, which is manifested in love for Ukraine, its people, native language, in the desire not only to study national culture, but also to join its creation, preservation, and transmission of heritage.

It is Ukrainian literature that has been the lifeblood for centuries and is still the lifeblood that gives young people a sense of unity with the nation, provides examples of national heroism and moral and ethical canons of daily behavior; classical Ukrainian literature is one of the most perfect manifestations of national culture, a kind of business card of Ukraine in Europe and the world.

It is in the Ukrainian literature classes that we can form a younger generation with an appropriate worldview, a system of values and beliefs, a high level of cultural development, social maturity and national dignity.

The practical aspect of the discipline makes it possible to master the skills of analyzing the main components of the text, to apply the acquired knowledge when creating their own works of various types and genres. For example:

— Create a meme “Europe and us” or “…you will see how beautiful it is here – come visit us” (M. Semenko). Note: Memes are funny images or videos with captions that spread quickly on social networks and media. They are often forwarded to friends and acquaintances, increasing their popularity and recognition.
— Make pyramids of the life values of Pavlo Tychyna, Mykola Zerov, and Maksym Rylsky. Which of them has a more meaningful and spiritually rich life?
— Imagine yourself as journalists who desperately need to cover the “breaking” news and create a report from the scene of the events based on the novel Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors. Use your creativity to the maximum, but rely on real facts.

— Read the discussion: “Comparing the works of Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky and Panas Myrny, literary critic Serhiy Yefremov wrote: – “These two writers have similarities in themes and in their general outlook, although each of them has completely different artistic means. Levytsky is more of a genre writer, external circumstances attract his attention the most, which is probably why he admires nature and beauty of his characters so much and generously scatters those descriptions in his works. Panas Myrnyi is more of a psychologist. The problems of inner life, the experience of the human soul are mainly of interest to this writer, and it is not ethnography, not external circumstances, not nature in its ostentatious forms, but people with all human traits that are in the foreground for him.” Why do you think that Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky and Panas Myrnyi were similar artists in their artistic expression?

So, the methodology of spiritual and moral upbringing of students is a purposeful process of organizing and stimulating students’ spiritual and cognitive activity. It is aimed at forming systematic knowledge of spiritual and moral values that develop a dialectical and flexible worldview of value orientations; emotional culture, volitional self-regulation of behavior, the ability to self-knowledge, self-education; skills and abilities of highly spiritual activity and spiritual and moral practice. In our Ukrainian literature classes, we effectively combine spiritual and intellectual education and upbringing.
