Spiritual and intellectual development of a person is an extremely important issue of our time. The combination of spiritual and intellectual, in the face of everyday challenges, is considered the highest level of human development. Thus, spiritual development in the scientific community is understood as inner growth and a constant search for truth. Spirituality indicates a higher level of personal development, independence of consciousness and self-control.
Indicators of spiritual development are known to be personal changes, social achievements, the ability to search for and apply new things (schemes, options, problems, hypotheses, solutions, etc.), and to be guided not by one’s own needs but by higher human values [2].
The intellectual development of a personality, as “a general characteristic of abilities, ways of mastering and effective use of knowledge”, is in a certain way determined and enhanced by the life originality of the position, existing values. That is, spirituality “gives” a moral orientation to the will, actions and mind [1].
Thus, the spiritual and intellectual development of a personality is manifested in the ability to make the right decision, to have one’s own independent position, to defend it reasonably, to be more flexible, to adapt to certain conditions, and to evaluate them competently.
Independence of mind provides the basis for the development of such qualities as originality, curiosity, discipline of mind, ability to manage one’s own cognitive processes, etc. In educational practice, there are many different means of promoting the spiritual and intellectual development of the individual. Among them, the traditional events initiated and conducted at H. S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National University of Economics are effective.
As a proven experience of education, training, mastering which allows organizers to achieve certain successes and results. These traditional events have a significant educational potential, serve as a proven means of forming the personality of the future teacher, in particular their spiritual and intellectual development. Thus, mastering the elements of socio-cultural heritage (ideas, values, customs), participation in various traditional forms and methods serve as a value choice for future teachers.
The analysis of the educational practice of holding events at the university, organized to achieve a certain goal, gives grounds for their tentative classification:
— by the form of organization (mass and group)
— by the target audience (adults, children, students of different degrees, etc.)
— by the venue (within the university, outside the university)
— by the form of the event (online, offline);
— by the purpose of the event (business, educational, developmental, leisure), etc.
The university has launched and is hosting many events, even just a list of which shows the large amount of work and their deep content.
Naumov’s readings are one of the events that has its own history, the existence of which is focused on the spiritual and intellectual development of the future teacher. The Naumov readings are traditionally held at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics.
Analyzing and summarizing the experience of the Naumovski readings, we can state that they:
— acquaint students with the teachers who worked at the faculty, their biographies, professional achievements, methodological achievements, personal qualities, etc;
— Encourage students and teachers to study the history of the faculty, physical and mathematical education and science in a deeper, more thorough way;
— stimulate both students and teachers to experimental activities, with the subsequent presentation of the results obtained at the sections;
— Encourage students and teachers of other faculties, university graduates, and school teachers from the city and region to participate in the readings.
The Naumovski readings are usually organized in the following way:
— reports, messages of a theoretical nature;
— Presentations of the results of experimental research;
— historical and pedagogical essays, essays;
— Memoirs, suggestions, recommendations;
— Presentation of projects, plans, and activities.
The timing of the Naumovski readings is also traditional: October-November.
The Naumovski readings have their founder: Valentyna Dmytrivna Zorya, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, Associate Professor, who initiated, organized and for a long time personally conducted them at a high level. As you know, every person leaves a mark. Valentyna Dmytrivna left a thorough, positive, long-lasting trace, with love for the faculty, science, students, and colleagues. A trace that only an honest, creative, responsible person can leave. A person who sought and found a way to express special gratitude and respect to the teachers who worked at the faculty, who demonstrated high professionalism, culture (professional and general), humane, dedicated service to the profession. Thus, over the past twenty years, we have met many teachers whose experience, skill, deep knowledge, and erudition are still worthy of approval.
The Naumovski readings, realizing their educational potential, undoubtedly contribute to the spiritual and intellectual development of future teachers. For example, over the 20 years of its existence, they have had the opportunity to experience the greatness of the value relationships between teachers and students, their high level of professionalism, professional and pedagogical skills, peculiarities of thinking, worldview, moral principles, etc.
Acquaintance with the biographies of teachers who worked at the faculty, their experience and teaching methods convinced students of the need to enrich their inner world, learn to feel the beauty of the subject, science, choose life values, and form critical and creative thinking, the basis of intellectual development. Professors I.O. Naumov, L.I. Belousova, associate professors M.A. Zhyhor, T.I. Belyaeva, senior lecturer S.B. Veselovsky and others had such a system of moral and intellectual values.
Over the years, the Naumovski readings have been enriched by the variety of problems raised (scientific, practical, analytical, methodological) by the participating audience (students, graduates, lecturers, teachers); the use of modern technologies for presenting materials, a careful definition of the subject of the Naumovski readings, etc.
Thus, the traditional Naumovski readings are an event that has an educational potential, namely, the formation of the personality of a future teacher, a professional teacher who is able to love teaching, who knows the history of the faculty well, who is convinced that education will save the world.
The Naumovski readings have their future: the faculty is the oldest at the university, with deep, valuable experience and unique teachers.
