We consider the formation of professional competence, which is carried out in the process of training a future specialist in a higher education institution from the standpoint of the acmeological approach. Many scientists see the essence of the acmeological approach in a comprehensive, holistic study of the subject at a certain level of maturity, when all its personal and subject-activity characteristics are studied in unity, taking into account their interconnection in order to help the individual to achieve higher levels of development [3].

According to G. Danylova, the acmeological approach should be considered in the context of humanization of education and laying the foundations of an innovative ideology of education. A characteristic feature of the acmeological approach is the focus of the pedagogical process on the improvement of a person in the educational environment, his/her self-development, purposeful movement of the individual throughout life “from one peak to another, to achieve “acme” in various types of human maturity, in his/her creativity and health, in the development of all his/her vital forces” [2].

Domestic researchers V. V. Oliynyk, V. I. Maslov, L. I. Danylenko, I. F. Zhernosek [1] and others define professional competence as an integral quality of a personality that has its own structure and allows a specialist to carry out his or her activities in the most effective way, and also contributes to his or her self-development and self-improvement.

The introduction of an acmeological approach in professional education ensures that students master the knowledge and technologies necessary for their further self-realization in professional activities, develop their creative potential, strengthen their motivational attitudes to self-improvement throughout life, and form interests to achieve success in professional activities. Graduates of the higher education institution will be able to think independently, build an individual development trajectory, find ways to achieve professional and personal success.

An important task of the acmeological approach in the context of the problem under study is the progressive personal and professional development of the future specialist to a high level of professionalism by forming such qualities as activity, responsibility, independence, ambition, creativity, self-confidence, as well as the ability to make independent decisions, self-improvement, reflection, self-correction.

A distinctive feature of this work is the consideration of the process of forming professional competence in a single educational system that covers all types of creative independent work and functions throughout the entire period of study. Students’ independent creative work contributes to the development of creative thinking, individual abilities and professional competence, and also allows for the training of initiative specialists, develops scientific intuition, depth of thinking, a creative approach to the perception of knowledge and its practical application to solve organizational, technical, applied tasks and scientific problems, and also fosters students’ ability to work in a team, that is, all those professional skills that distinguish a trained highly qualified specialist.

In the course of creative independent work, students not only develop the creative potential of a future specialist and determine his or her scientific interests, but also develop business and personal qualities necessary for professional activity: dedication, responsibility, perseverance in achieving the goal, initiative, cooperation, responsibility, conscientiousness, reliability, ability to follow through, adequate self-esteem, self-control, self-organization (ability to plan and organize independent work), and the ability to work in a team.
